Atrial and Ventricular Diastole by rlhIllustration Atrial and Ventricular Diastole by rlhIllustration
Graphite pencil on bristol board.

A re-drawing of a University project I set myself on Medical Illustration. I loved the original project two years ago, but thought I could do much better, so decided to redo the pictures as my skills had improved.

The first of a series of three images showing the stages of a heart beat. This image shows Atrial and Ventricular Diastole, where the heart is relaxed and blood can enter.
(I drew straight from a pig's heart I had cut in half and photographed for the project, and therefore may not be entirely scientifically correct in muscle placement)

If anyone thinks this needs a 'mature' tag, then please just say.

Wow the details are so wonderful! Also, though it's an actual heart, it is very abstract, making it all the more interesting. Great work :)

Haha, thank you XD
Yes, it has that kind of effect on people. The effect of "Really nice pencil work! - I feel a little ill!"

Aw, thanks. That's so kind :3
It's really cliche, but it's all about practise, hehe.
Plus getting the right paper really helps. I use bristol board, it's a thick paper that is super smooth. I recommend trying it out, it makes blending things much smoother c:
