A4 graphite pencil drawing on bristol board.

My Mum and Step Dad's dog, Gracie. Drawn for Christmas.
Unfortunately it was a little bit rushed as there were a lot of things to get arranged for Christmas. But I'm still pretty happy with this, and they were both really pleased with it. So that's all that matters I guess c:

The photo I drew from was taken at the beach on a very sunny day, so there was quite a lot of dark shadows and bright highlights. It makes poor Gracie look a little older, but it does make for quite a proper and serious looking portrait.

Such details c: my poor patience would go trough the roof haha if I were to make this many details.

Haha, thanks c:
I do like my details!

You're right. I actually do lose patience with these detailed pictures sometimes!
But the end result is worth it X3

I kinda wish I knew the process c: I could never experiment my way to details and pen shading.

It's a lot of staring at things really intently - all the little details in the fur, and thinking about how each strand has it's own shadow as well as the shadow cast on it.
A lot of detailed work is about drawing what you see, and not what you think you see. Looking back at your reference photo every few seconds is a must, because your brain plays tricks on you and a lot of the time you are remembering something incorrectly.

It can get quite tedious sometimes, but the feeling of success when you're finally done is great c:

Aww D: I don't have the patience to make every strand of fur hng I'd get insane, which is why for example I made Siff a furred dragon ^^ not a scaled one, scales are tedious...
